Comments: I think we share a common great, great grandfather. My grandmother was Carrie Bishop, illegitimate daughter of Jim's daughter, Arlanda. It would be interesting to talk. I lived with my grandmother, and she told me many stories.

Comments: I was browsing the SCV sites and saw that nine of your members traveled across the country for a gravesite ceremony. I have to tell you how wonderful it is to hear about that kind of devotion. What a testimony to the comradery and dedication of Southern sons to their heroes of the past. I will share this with my compatriots here in my camp in Maryland. Please accept my sincerest wish that your fine camp may continue to grow and prosper. Deo Vindice Bill Elliott

Comments: I am the great, great, great grandson of Jackson Reedy, Private, 50th Virginia Infantry, Company D, "The Wilson Rifles" (I have also seen them referred to as, "The Grayson Hornets". Jackson and his brothers Christopher and Andrew apparently all served in the 50th, Co. D for the duration of the war. Andrew died in the (Elmyra?) New York POW camp of pnuemonia. Jackson was captured and held POW for the final 5 months of the war in Delaware. After the war he returned to Grayson county, outlived one wife and had at least six children - my great, great grandmother being his eldest daugther. Jackson died February 1st, 1905 (age 77)and is buried in our family's section of the church graveyard at Shippey's Branch. We have at least one picture and a transcript of a letter he wrote to his father during his 4+ years on the 50th's campaign. This is a great site and you are doing a wonderful honor to these men. I am sure they are all proud and grateful. Thank you and best regards, Chris Short

Comments: Hello, My Gr. Grand father, Matthew Henry Deatherage and his younger brother, Sampson H. Deatherage, served in Company K of the 50th Va along with their cousin, Emery D. Deatherage. They all participated in the Kanawha Valley campaigns of 1861 & 1862. Sampson was wounded at Charleston, WV on 9/13/1861 and died there two days later. I'm trying to locate his grave site (if there is one). Dave Deatherage San Antonio, Texas
