Comments: Re. The June Newsletter mentioned that based on Mable Taylor's article the position of the Gray family during the Civil War was unknown. Check my article on file in the library: THE GRAY-CAMPBELL HOUSE SAGA and you will find that the Grays were very likely in the tradition of Thomas Hart Benton and the Unionists (and locally in support of John Smith Phelps). This means that they were probably not Confederate sympathesizers! [although they were slave owners]. Sincerely, Charles E. Gray (great grandson of Elijah Gray)

Comments: Found the house open today, talked to Betty Jane Turner for quite a while. Such fun. My husband's mom was a Campbell with cousins to the Grays. My family is "Jacob Painter" the gun smith who settled in Springfield area in 1831. Betty Jane and the lady in the kitchen were such fun to talk to and tell stories. Theirs and mine. This was a great afternoon.
